Why Should I Care?

Wouldn't it be easy just to take a step back from all of the trials and troubles

and not be involved in helping people through the day to day struggles?  Easy, maybe.  What we are called by God to do?  NO.  We are told in Matthew 28:19-20:

Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen. (KJV)

Or, in the Amplified Bible:

19 Go then and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them [b]into the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,

20 Teaching them to observe everything that I have commanded you, and behold, I am with you [c]all the days ([d]perpetually, uniformly, and on every occasion), to the [very] close and consummation of the age. [e]Amen (so let it be).

We are to teach those around us about God.  Who He is, what He has done for us and what He can do for them.  Matthew 25:34-40 gives instruction on the compassion we are to show for others:

 

34 Then shall the King say unto them on his right hand, Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world:

35 For I was an hungred, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in:

36 Naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came unto me.

37 Then shall the righteous answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, and fed thee? or thirsty, and gave thee drink?

38 When saw we thee a stranger, and took thee in? or naked, and clothed thee?

39 Or when saw we thee sick, or in prison, and came unto thee?

40 And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me. (KJV)

Or, again from the Amplified translation:

³⁴Then the King will say to those at His right hand, Come, you blessed of My Father [you ^[g]favored of God and appointed to eternal salvation], inherit (receive as your own) the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world.
    ³⁵For I was hungry and you gave Me food, I was thirsty and you gave Me something to drink, I was a stranger and you ^[h]brought Me together with yourselves and welcomed and entertained and ^[i]lodged Me,
    ³⁶I was naked and you clothed Me, I was sick and you visited Me ^[j]with help and ministering care, I was in prison and you came to see Me.
    ³⁷Then the just and upright will answer Him, Lord, when did we see You hungry and gave You food, or thirsty and gave You something to drink?
    ³⁸And when did we see You a stranger and welcomed and entertained You, or naked and clothed You?
    ³⁹And when did we see You sick or in prison and came to visit You?
    ⁴⁰And the King will reply to them, Truly I tell you, in so far as you did it for one of the least [^[k]in the estimation of men] of these My brethren, you did it for Me.

As Christians, we simply cannot stand on the sidelines or sit in the back-seat and expect not to have a role in the lives of those people around us.  People today are hurting and looking for hope.  They will take any hope they may find, whether it be positive through God, or negative through some temporary solution that will leave them wanting more.  We must be the light we are called to be!
